    The loss of natural resources are an increasing concern that as gained the attention of communities, countries and cultures. Harrogate is a region that is known for its natural surroundings. There are areas of hillsides and country that have eluded modernization with an untouched quality that is hard to find today. Despite ecofriendly efforts, the effects of deforestation, air quality and environmental impacts have taken their toll on the historical District.  The goal to protect and prevent includes a variety of efforts from both the Council and Harrogate residents. Over the last few years, awareness has led to a variety of plans and petitions. The residents and visitors of Harrogate are taking the opportunity to ensure the sustainability of the District for generations to come.

    There are many ways we can do our part in helping to preserve the Environment. Adapting our daily habits and routine is a great place to start. Harrogate has a number of Go Green initiatives to become involved in. Recycling- The Council as recognized a steady growth of households and businesses moving into the area. Without a heightened recycling plan, the upsurge of residents could cause an imbalance in the system. A sure fire Recycling schedule was set in motion. The guidelines are separated by color and type of items needing to be picked up. Harrogate has expanded their goals to reach smaller communities alongside the bigger cities. This will ensure a common thread of awareness among all residents.

    Trees- Spanning out for miles, you can see green towering trees watching over Harrogate. Wildlife preservation sites maintain the lands under the protection of provided laws. The rest of the District has noted a decline in naturally standing Trees leading a growing concern for the Environment. Petitions have started to plant more trees and include a restriction to needlessly cutting down existing resources. Doubling the Tree cover will assist in the emissions policies the country is striving for. Plastic- Continuing a District plan follows in line with the country wide development of items and Earth friendly agendas. The use of plastic has been an uphill battle in the world with a percentage of progress shown. Harrogate has reduced the use of plastics replacing them with recycled materials. Eco innovations have brought fresh concepts to water bottles, household items and packaging methods. Working towards a plastic free future will positively help the Environment and Wildlife in Harrogate. Renewable Energy- New construction and renovations are encouraged to utilize energy efficiency and renewable sources. With fewer resources applied, Harrogate generates a brighter possibility that will have lasting results. The District strongly encourages walking and cycling in lieu of mainstream transportation to keep the air clean. Solar or wind energy is the wave of the future.
