This year is nothing but crazy madness. We are all locked at home and waiting for the situation to get better. But the situation does not change that fast, and we all are missing trips, excitement, and joy of discovering new places and tastes. But not everything is so sad and gloomy after all! We can make a celebration for ourselves every day and discover new tastes of the world just in our kitchen. Cooking and tasting new dishes is fun when you do not need to force yourself. So today, the taste of Yorkshire is invited in your kitchen, so let us have a traditional British weekend dinner.
The British people hardly imagine their Sunday meet lunches without Yorkshire puddings. The batter of this pudding seems similar like a batter of pancakes and it is poured into well-heated cupcake baking sheet. After a few minutes in the oven, you can enjoy puffy cakes sticking through the edges of the baking sheet. To be honest, when pulled out the little cakes of the oven, these cakes collapse fast and leaving a cavity in the center, but the indescribable softness really does not go away!
If you want to prepare a traditional British dish, you will need: flour 150 g; eggs 4 pcs; salt 2 teaspoons or sea salt flakes; black pepper 1 tsp; milk 330 ml; fresh or dried thyme 2 tsp; parsnips chips 60 g (made by shaving it with a simple vegetable peeler); potatoes 120 g, but you can also choose sweet potatoes if you like it more; and butter 80 g. If you want a slightly healthier option of the Ypurkshire pudding, you can use the ghee butter or even olive oil but the pure one. Today, you are the head chef, so the choice is up to you.
Preheat the oven up to 220°C. Add flour, eggs, salt, pepper, milk, and thyme to the food processor bowl and mix everything into a solid liquid fluffy dough. Do not worry about the liquidity of the dough, it must be like this. Let the dough rest for about 20 minutes. Put parsnips and potato chips in a bowl and mix. Set the dough aside for a little while.
Divide the butter or ghee butter if it was your choice in equal parts for the 12 cupcake baking sheet cavities. The average capacity might be about 125 ml. Put this baking sheet with butter only in the oven and cook for about 12-15 minutes, or until the butter starts to smoke. No worries about the little smokes! Remove the baking sheet from the oven and pour the dough into each heated cavity very quickly (approximately 1/4 of the glass of dough). Place a pinch of parsnips and sweet potato chips on top. For this amount you will need one medium-sized parsnip and one medium-sized sweet potato.Bake for about 20-25 minutes, until the puddings swell, turn yellow, parsnips and potatoes are crispy. Serve immediately!
